Description of the Family

  • Beaks near anterior end
  • Surface lacks radial ornamentation
  • One or two posterior lateral teeth in each valve (or lacking)
  • Anterior adductor with strong posterior myophoric ridge
  • One or two cardinals in each valve

Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology, Part N, Vol. 1 of 3 (1969):

  • Beaks near anterior end; surface without radial ornamentation; isomyarian; one or two posterior lateral teeth in each valve, or lacking; anterior laterals lacking or short; one or two cardinals in each valve; anterior adductor with strong posterior myophoric ridge. (Some genera of this family resemble certain Modiomorphidae and Carditidae.)
